Think:
“If you go out to war upon your enemies…”
Deuteronomy Chapter 21:10
“The time of prayer is the time of war.”
The Zohar
Within each and every one of us, there is an enemy. It’s the deeply cynical voice that fills us with self-doubts, that leads to anger or haughtiness. It is the ego, the Id, that we must face and conquer to grow.
And the battle is the time of prayer - that quiet moment of introspection, that connection to our past and vision to proceed to the future. That connection to our Creator and source.
In Hebrew, the YOU that is going out to do battle is in the singular. That is because the battle can only be won when we are imbued with a sense of unity - when we come to grasp the oneness within ourselves, when we unite our inner faculties, and ultimately become one with those around us and with the world. We are with the ultimate One.
When we understand that unity, then the battle is upon our enemies - in the plural the force of disunity and discordance. We are not fighting against something, we are proceeding from above. We are transcendent because we have become one with that which transcends all things.
In simples words: Become one with yourself and the world by knowing that you are bound up with the transcendent One. And when you understand that transcendence, then you will be uplifted above all opposition.
