Are You Just About Passing Through?
Tech Tribe Dispatch #355
đĄ Think:
âAt the bidding of the Lord, the children of Israel traveled, and at the bidding of the Lord, they encamped.â
â Behaalotecha 9:18
Everywhere we go, itâs part of the divine plan.
When the Jewish people wandered the desert, it was at G-dâs bidding through Moses. They followed the clouds by day, the pillar of fire at night. They stopped when the clouds stopped. They journeyed when they moved.
As the Torah portion notes, it mattered little how long the Jews were encamped, be it âfor two days, a month, or a year,â when they stopped, they immediately set up the Tabernacle. And when the cloud moved, so did they.
Why did they go through all the effort? Surely if they were merely âpassing through,â there was no need to invest all the effort in setting up? Yet set up they did, and when they journeyed, they dismantled it, to set it up once more down the road.
The answer lies in who was commanding: The journey wasnât just chance. The clouds were not just a passing atmospheric condition. The Jews were witnessing G-dâs bidding through Moses.
The trip was for divine intent. Each stopover part of the divine plan. Thus, it mattered little how long they encamped; every moment was one of connecting to the Creator who transcends all time and taking part in the revelation of His infinite will.
This lesson is one for life as well: Wherever G-d leads us in this world, it is for a purpose to do His will â whether youâre there for many years, or whether it is only from evening until morning. No matter where you are, the purpose that brought you there is above time and above place. G-d is fully invested in that moment, you should be tooâŚ1
