THINK:
In this week’s Torah portion, each leader of the Tribes of Israel brought an identical offering: the same number of animals, the same measure of incense, the silver bowls of the same size. Yet when recounting these offerings, the Torah takes the time to list each leader’s individual offerings, as if they were somehow unique.
Why repeat the entire passage twelve times?
The Torah wishes to teach us that the sacrifices of each leader were actually different. Although they brought the same items, each one had a different intent. The deed was the same; the spiritual commitment differed from leader to leader.
Jewish Wisdom for Startups
Ask yourself how the product you’re creating can be channeled for good.
From a Jewish point of view, don’t be evil simply isn’t enough. The sages taught in the Talmud that gold was created not for its corrupting use as an object to be lusted after, but rather to beautiful the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. These teaching underscores the divine potential found in everything - the obligation to actually elevate it and reveals its potential remains on us.
So too with technology, everything we create must be to do actual transformative goodness in this world.
