We currently find ourselves in the month of Elul - a preparatory month before the High Holidays. Elul reveals something amazing about ourselves. This month is compared to the stroll a King would take through the fields - a time when he is accesable to the common folk, found not in the grandeur of his palace, but in the land they work each day.
During the holidays, G-d is exalted. Rosh and Yom Kippur, with their pageantry and ritual, feel deeply holy.
But in Elul, that holiness is accesable. We go about our daily lives, the mundane drudgery of existence, and in that very space, we find the sanctity and connection to Creator of all in full.
