For the month of June we’re sharing Chasidic Wisdom for Tech and Social Media.
Jeff Bezos has famously articulated his vision for Amazon: they must always be at “Day One”
As Tech Tribe friend Alex Kantrowitz recounts in his masterful book Always Day One “At Amazon, "Day One" is code for inventing like a startup, with little regard for legacy. Day Two is, in Jeff Bezos's own words, "stasis, followed by irrelevance, followed by excruciating, painful decline, followed by death."
Most companies today are set up for Day Two. They build advantages and defend them fiercely, rather than invent the future. But Amazon and fellow tech titans Facebook, Google, and Microsoft are operating in Day One: they prioritize reinvention over tradition and collaboration over ownership.”
“That is why it is always Day 1,” Bezos has claimed.
The Chasidic masters explained that the Exodus from Egypt is the journey from the self-imposed limitations that bind us, to our desired goals of positively changing ourselves and the world. Not merely a singular event, the Exodus is a constant experience, realized not only at the Seder, but every day.
Every day we must reframe ourselves. Yesterday’s Promised Land, the goals for which we strive, if left in place, become today’s Egypt, the new limitations that tie us back. Only through constant Exodus, can we truly transcend.
