Korohod Redux: The ecstatic jig thawing the frigid coarseness of the mundane world
Tech Tribe Dispatch #217
💡 Think:
Sukkot arrives this evening, and despite the torrential downpours in New York, for many the experience in the sukkah may feel somewhat underwhelming. It’s wet, it’s cold, it may even feel lonely.
But especially during Sukkot, we are never alone. We’re eneveloped by G-d’s embrace manafest through the Sukkah walls. The mystics explain that the Ushpizin, spiritual guests, join us in the Sukkah each night. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob all come to vibe between its walls. What’s more, the founders of the chasidic movement - the Baal Shem Tov; the Alter Rebbe, the founder of Chabad, and others are said to visit as well.
In a letter penned by the previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, he describes the lone Jew experiencing this encounter:
The chasidic masters draw the lone chasid sitting in sukkah found in the farthest corners of the world, into an ecstatic jig [“Golus Birur’dike Karahod] that washes away the darkest stains of exile. Perhaps with physical eyes we only see the frigid coarseness of the mundane world, but the soul experiences this supernal revelation
