Let the Grind Fuel Your Flight
Tech Tribe Dispatch #356
đĄ Think:
Caleb silenced the people to [hear about] Moses, and he said, "We can surely go up and take possession of it, for we can indeed overcome it."
â Numbers 13:30
We can surely go up. even to heaven; if [Moshe] tells us,âMake ladders and go up there,â we will succeed in whatever he says.
â Rashi
At the dawn of the space race, scientists were faced with a challenge:
On earth there are two ways to take flight:
One could be light enough to simply float away. Take the buoyancy of a hot air balloon or the zeppelin. Or you could create lift, forcing air to flow over airfoils, using the resistance of the air itself to lift us towards the sky.
In space however, there is no air to create continuous lift or thrust to stay on course.
On Earth we can ride on buoyancy or aerodynamic lift, but a rocket ship, hurtling through the void of space, would have nothing to push off against to keep it moving. Without air, it cannot glide or generate continuous lift;
The decision came in using a free-return trajectory, relying on its initial burn, pushing against its own exhaust and the Moonâs gravity to naturally curve the spacecraftâs path back to Earth without requiring further major propulsion. The journey itself is propelled by its own force, the spacecraft arcing through space and âfallingâ home along a path shaped by the Moonâs pull.1
In life we face opposition. We can view the forces acting against us as ones that will try to beat us down. Or we can use them as the impetus to create lift, to transform the negativity into the fuel for our flight.
Let the grind fuel your hustle and lift you ever higher.
But what of an era where the struggle is gone? When all our work is done by others and the need to refine the dross physicality no longer applies?
Then the power must come from within. In touch with our essence, the journey is powered not by external fuel and outside forces, but rather through its own movement and trajectory.
