To Build A Better Robot, First We Must Be
Tech Tribe Dispatch #196 - Live From SXSW
Hello from Austin and #openShabbat at SXSW!
đĄ Think:
Every year SXSW has its buzzwords, and there is no doubt that this year, the focus will be on Article Intelligence.
And for good reason: AI is poised to upend almost everything we do.
Itâs why Iâve explored and written about it in these pages.
The biggest question about AI is not as much what it will replace, since given time and proper implementation it will replace many things, hopefully allowing us to focus on ever higher levels of work. (I say hopefully, since the reality is that buggy whip makers can not so easily pivot to becoming race car drivers)
Rather itâs whatâs going into it:
An algorithm is only as good as its data set. In order to build apps and technology that are truly transformative, itâs critical that we live lives endowed with actual goodness and meaning.
Weâre at a point where we realize how technology, unmoored from deeper meaning and higher morals, can be an incredibly corrosive force. However, when itâs mined for meaning and purposeâwhen the goodness isnât just the tagline at the end of the pitch, but the actual core focus of the productâthen there is this incredible potential for truly profound good.
At its heart, thatâs what #openShabbat, and Tech Tribe, are all about: If the technology of the future will inevitably be such a profound force in our lives, then itâs critical that those building it do so from a place of true goodness. The pursuit of goodness, not just knowledge and definitely not just wealth, needs to be the guiding force in our lives. Founders and innovators who start their day with a routine act of goodness - giving something each day to those in need, creating a foundation of goodness each day - are essential to our future.
