By the splitting of the Sea of Reeds, the Jewish people found themselves between a rock and a hard place - the encroaching Egyptian army to one side and the waters below to the other. Nachshon ben Aminadav dove into the sea, forging ahead until its waters reached up to his neck.
Then the sea split.
