š” Think:
The Torah portions of Vayakhel and Pekudei are often read together. Where Vayakhel, literally to gather, embodies a top down perspective that expresses a big picture sense of purpose.
I want to build something!
But then thereās Pekudei - where the torah recounts each and every detail of the tabernacle. Here, a bottom-up approach, each item is analyzed for how it can be imbued with G-dliness. The details are checked against the big picture.
In most years these two Torah portions are read togetherā¦ each has an important use.
But what about his year, when only Vayakhel is read? That calls on us to not have a big picture look, and then a detail oriented one, but rather one where the understanding that there are details is an expression of the whole. Think of last weekās meditation on the half shekel - and the need to find unity in acknowledging our incompleteness.
A week of just Vayakhel is when we call all acknowledge the transcendent oneness beyond the details.
